Freddie Stephen Brockwell

Freddie was born just under 6 weeks early on 1st October. This was a complicated entrance into the world. Freddie was born with Hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) this was due to his brain not receiving enough oxygen and/or blood flow around the time of birth. HIE affects the brain, but the effects of low oxygen or blood flow can also cause problems in the lungs. Due to HIE and brain trauma it meant Freddie did not have control over parts of his body, for instance Freddie had no swallow reflex this meant he had to  be fed via a tube in his nose. Additionally to name a few it meant Freddie had cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease and would be severally disabled.

When born Freddie first spent 10 days at St George's having cooling therapy to try to help reduce the risks caused. He was then transferred back to st helier for 9 weeks before coming home just before Christmas.

As you seen since Christmas we have been back and forth with Freddie in hospital with Freddie needing support with breathing due to chest infections, something we were told would be sadly never ending cycle.

However Freddie the little fighter he was got better and we spent just over a week together as a family at Christophers Shooting Stars. Here we got to share some lovely memories with Freddie in the sensory room and going swimming for the first time.

We then were able to come home for a short time before Freddie became unwell again with difficulty breathing.

It is with a heavy heart that i write this, Freddie fought as hard as he could like he has the whole 5 months of his life but sadly lost this fight on the 4th March.
We as parents are so proud and privileged to have been Freddie parents and to have shared some lovely memories the last 5 months. He was such a loved little boy and our only regret is that due to covid he was unable to meet so many of you.
